The limited-overs series between India and Sri Lanka has been rescheduled on Saturday due to reported Covid-19 positive cases in Sri Lankan camp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the tentative date that was originally being discussed was July 17, but the BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Saturday confirmed that it will start from July 18. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the new announcement, the first ODI of the series had been scheduled to start on July 13, will now take place on July 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A day after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) put forward a proposal to reschedule the series, Shah confirmed the development to ANI. Confirming the news, he said India-Sri Lanka ODI series to start on July 18 due to COVID-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development comes amid a Sri Lankan player in one of the two bio-bubbles has tested positive for Covid-19 as the virus outbreak continued to rock the hosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series, which was originally scheduled to start from July 13, had to be rescheduled after Sri Lanka’s batting coach Grant Flower and data analyst GT Niroshan tested positive for the Delta variant of Covid-19 on their return from the UK tour, which also meant an extended quarantine period for the squad members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, the group of players are training separately even as the virus outbreak forced a postponement of the series by four days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second-string Indian team, being led by Shikhar Dhawan with Rahul Dravid as chief coach, has completed its hard quarantine and has been training in Colombo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sri Lanka cricket team have been in a bit of turmoil even otherwise with a dispute over contracts and an ongoing inquiry into bio-bubble breach by three players during the England tour adding to their woes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the second edition of the Lanka Premier League has been postponed to November-December due to the unavailability of foreign players, the country’s cricket board said on Friday. The T20 league was scheduled to begin from July 29 but has been postponed to a November 19-December 12 schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three ODI matches will now be held on July 18, 20 and 23 at the Premadasa Stadium followed by the T20 Internationals, starting on July 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this, the Covid pandemic has once again started to disrupt international cricket. Earlier, England had to completely change their squad for the limited-overs series against Pakistan after 7 positive cases were reported in their camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
