Amid feud with the Central government over new IT rules, social media giant Twitter released its transparency report on Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report contains the monthly data of details of complaints received and action taken thereon as well as the number of web links or URLs action was taken against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In its compliance report, Twitter said going forward, we will be publishing this report on a monthly basis, and we are committed to <\/strong>making improvements over time, based on feedback received from the government, or in accordance with internal changes that allow for us to provide more granular data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The transparency report of Twitter covers the data from May 26 to June 25 this year includes harassment, defamation, terrorism, and impersonation among others. The report said 37 complaints were registered, of which 20 were on defamation. Twitter said it has acted against 132 tweets related to these complaints and flagged over 22,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Twitter has been under scanner ever since it refused to comply with the new Information Technology rules laid by the Central Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The government laid down new IT rules in February which came into effect on May 26. Under the new rules, they directed all major social media platforms operating in the country to appoint compliance officers in India, set up grievance response mechanisms, and takedown content within 36 hours of a legal order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the Centre, the new rules are designed to prevent abuse and misuse of platforms and offer users a robust forum for grievance redressal.
