A lightning strike near the 12th century Amer Palace in Jaipur killed eleven people and injured many on Sunday evening. The incident took place when people were taking selfies at the watchtower amid rain in the Rajasthan capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Srivastava told The Indian Express that so far 11 people have died and another dozen people are injured in the incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amer Police station SHO Shivnarayan said the incident took place around 7.30 pm on Sunday when lightning struck a watch tower situated in the hills opposite the Amer Fort. Nine bodies were found on the spot after the accident. The watchtower was situated on the opposite side of the Amer fort and most of those dead are youngsters, said Amer police station SHO Shivnarayan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot paid condolences to the grieving families and announced a compensation of \u20b9 5 lakh each to the kin of those who lost their lives in the incident. He has ordered compensation for the injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
