Delhi’s Patiala House court  on Tuesday sent Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashwini Upadhyay and three accused to two-day judicial custody for raising anti-muslim slogans in Delhi\u2019s Jantar Mantar on August 8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Joint Commissioner of Police Jaspal Singh said the Delhi Police have arrested six people, including Upadhyay, in the case. The five other men were identified as Deepak Singh, Vinod Sharma, Vineet Bajpai, Preet Singh and Deepak Kumar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi court also remanded  Vineet Bajpai and Deepak Singh to two days police custody in connection with the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A case was registered in this regard after Delhi Police took cognizance of viral videos showing a group of men raising inflammatory anti-muslim slogans. The protest was held by Bharat Jodo Aandolan at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. Upadhyay, Supreme Court lawyer and former spokesperson of the Delhi unit of the BJP, had posted several tweets asking people to join the event. Another BJP leader, Gajendra Chauhan, was also among the participants in the rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who attended the rally also defied Covid-19 guidelines as they neither wore masks nor maintained social distancing norms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accused have been booked under sections 188, 269, 260 and 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with Section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act and 51-B of the Disaster Management Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Ashwini said that the protest was organised to condemn the colonial laws and to make uniform laws for all. He further said that the programme was over a 12: 15. He also said that the videos were posted by some miscreants who were there to malign the peaceful protest which was held for a noble cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other India news, the DGCI has granted permission for a research study<\/a> to analyse mixing a dose of each of the two vaccines against the Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin and Covidshield.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
