{"id":155538,"date":"2021-08-14T13:43:02","date_gmt":"2021-08-14T08:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=155538"},"modified":"2021-08-14T15:56:04","modified_gmt":"2021-08-14T10:26:04","slug":"independence-day-flag-hoisting-ceremony-goa-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/independence-day-flag-hoisting-ceremony-goa-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Navy cancels Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony on Goa island as locals object"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Navy authorities on Thursday said they have cancelled the plans to unfurl the Tricolour or Tiranga on Independence Day in South Goa\u2019s Sao Jacinto island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities said the decision comes a day after when residents at the island started objecting to it. A Navy spokesperson said it seems like the plan to unfurl the Tricolor at Sao Jacinto island might get canceled as the locals don&#8217;t want and objecting to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the incident came in front of state Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, he asked the naval authorities not to stop and go ahead to hoist the Tiranga at the island,\u00a0 he warned all the islanders that such type of activity cannot be tolerated under his government and it would consider as anti-India activities and would be dealt with an iron fist, Sawant said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read Also: <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/unmukt-chand-retirement-usa-league\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/unmukt-chand-retirement-usa-league\/\">Unmukt Chand retires from all forms of cricket, signs deals with USA\u2019s Major Cricket League<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sawant on late Friday evening tweeted it is unfortunate and shameful that some individuals at St. Jacinto Island have objected to Hoisting of the National Flag by the Indian Navy on the occasion of India&#8217;s Independence Day. I condemn this and want to state on record that my government will not tolerate any such acts, Sawant tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sawant further said the Indian Navy should go ahead with their original plan and they have full cooperation from Goa Police. These attempts of anti-India activities shall be dealt with an iron fist.
