Born in a dungeon in present-day Mathura in Uttar Pradesh at midnight to Queen Devaki and King Vasudeva, Krishna is described in Hindu epics as the god of love, tenderness, and compassion. After taking birth in Mathura, Krishna went to Gokul, where his birth anniversary is celebrated with great pomp. The music of Anand Bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki was heard all around in Braj. On the day of Krishna Janmashtami, devotees observe a fast and various dishes are prepared to mark the birth of Krishna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
