The Kashmiri Separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away on Wednesday night. He was 92. It is reported that the reason for his sudden death was prolonged illness. Soon after the demise of Kashmiri leader, curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in Kashmir. Mobile internet has been shut so that no provocative rumours can be circulated on the internet. The announcement of his death was broadcasted over loudspeakers from mosques in Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geelani was from the Sopore district and he was a three-time legislature from the same district. According to reports, it is stated that strict restrictions have been imposed in that region. High security has been deployed in that area to maintain law and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from this, the roads that lead up to Geelani’s residence are also sealed and heavy security has been deployed in that area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was Syed Ali Shah Geelani?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Syed Ali Shah Geelani was a Pakistani supporter. He was a separatist leader and the founding member of the Hurriyat Conference. The Hurriyat Conference was the amalgam of 6 parties. Geelani was also a three-time legislator from the Sopore district, and he was known as the face of agitation in the 2008 Amarnath land row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geelani’s family said that he had been ailing for years and had been under house arrest for the last 12 years after leading several anti-India protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his demise, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan poured condolatory wishes. He also said that Pakistan will observe a day of mourning. He further said that Pakistan will fly the flag at half-mast. Imran Khan further said that Geelani struggled all his life for his people and their right to determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
