{"id":16561,"date":"2017-05-16T13:57:27","date_gmt":"2017-05-16T08:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=16561"},"modified":"2017-05-16T13:58:44","modified_gmt":"2017-05-16T08:28:44","slug":"cbi-raids-chidambaram-karti-homes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/cbi-raids-chidambaram-karti-homes\/","title":{"rendered":"CBI raids Chidambaram, Karti homes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<em>FIPB clearances to Peter Mukerjea firm under lens<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Central Bureau of Investigation raided the residences of former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in Chennai on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The raids were conducted in connection with clearances allegedly given to the Peter Mukerjea-owned INX Media (<em>News X<\/em>) by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) during Chidambaram\u2019s tenure as FM.<\/p>\n<p>Other than 16 locations in Tamil Nadu, searches were also conducted at places in Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram, reports said.<\/p>\n<p>According to an <em>India Today <\/em>report, INX Media had paid money and allotted shares to Karti&#8217;s Advantage Strategic Consulting and firms linked to it in 2008. Karti is already facing a money laundering probe in the Aircel-Maxis scam.<\/p>\n<p>However, Chidambaram and other Congress leaders have accused the government of using the CBI to target the former Union minister and his son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government, using CBI and other agencies, is targeting my son and his friends. The government\u2019s aim is to silence my voice and stop me from writing, as it has tried to do in the cases of leaders of Opposition parties, journalists, columnists, NGOs and civil society organizations.
