What is the significance of Hartalika Teej?

The Hartalika is derived from two words that are Har and Talika. The word Har means abduction, but the meaning of abduction should not be taken in the literal sense here. The meaning of the word Talika means friend. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Goddess Pravati was in love with Lord Shiva and wanted to marry him, however, her father did not agree to this, instead, he accepted the proposal of Lord Vishnu. Moreover, to sought help, Goddess Parvati asked her friend and she helped her to hide in a dense forest. Ever since then, married women worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day.
