Six men have been lynched in Jharkhands’s East Singhbhum district and the adjoining district over fast spreading rumours of child-lifting. Protesters\u00a0on Saturday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0clashed with police in different areas of Jamshedpur calling for a shutdown.<\/div>\n

Three men hailing from Nagadih in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand were dragged out of a house and beaten to death as villagers accused them of lifting children. Police have stated that rumours of childlifting had been spreading all over the region after three Muslim cattle traders were chased and beaten to death by a mob.<\/div>\n

Police had to use tear gas and later lathi charged, as protesters pelted stones and bricks and tried to block roads and shut \u00a0shops.<\/div>\n

Zabiullah, the village chief of Haldipokhor, said he earlier tried to call the police but they did not pay any heed. \u201cWe gave pictures and videos of those involved in the killings to the police. They are known faces and we have identified some. But we do not know why they have not been arrested. This incident will create a divide… the lynched were Muslims, while the accused are all tribals,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n

Refusing Chief Minister Raghubar Das’s offer of Rs 2 lakh compensation for the victim\u2019s family, the community members submitted their demands, including Rs 25 lakh each as relief, government jobs to the victims’ families, a ration shop and an anganwadi centre in the village, houses under the government schemes, apart from the immediate arrest.<\/div>\n
