A video of a man running and stomping on the dead body of a protester is being widely circulated on the internet. The horrific incident took place in Assam’s Sipajhar area where the eviction drive is taking place. Now, the DGP of Assam police said that the cameraman who was seen in the video has been arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, it can be seen that a man who was in a vest was running towards a police party holding a lathi. After this, the police started opening fire on him and as the man fell to the ground, the police continued to beat him up with the batons, there was also a man who was carrying a camera and he was stomping on the body of the protester, in front of the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man with the camera was identified as Bijoy Bonia, a photographer. He was hired by the district administration to take pictures of the government’s eviction drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, it was also seen that Bonia was stomping on him and was returning to do that again, there were some police officials who were trying to stop him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, he was arrested and DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta said that as per the wish of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the case has now been handed over to CID. He further said that the cameraman Bijoy Bania is in Assam CID’s custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social media was outraging over the horrific incident and said that they are feeling ashamed to be from this country. One of the users said that this image is symbolic of a pillar of democracy that let down India its Media & journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Assam government has further ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired judge of the Gauhati High Court. They said that the government in the home and political department decided to institute an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of two civilians and injury of several others including police personnel in the firing incident that took place on September 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
