NEW DELHI: The UPSC\u00a0on Wednesday\u00a0declared the results of the Civil Service Exam conducted in 2016. Nandini K R, who hails from Karnataka, has topped the examination.<\/p>\n
This is the third consecutive year a woman candidate has topped the civil services examination. In 2014, Ira Singhal had topped, whereas in 2015, Tina Dabi became the headline for the same reason.<\/p>\n
Nandini belongs to the other backward classes (OBC) and appeared for the exam for the fourth time. Similarly, Tina Dabi, the first-rank holder of 2015, was a general candidate who didn’t make use of the reserved Scheduled Caste category that she could have.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, Nandini said she wants to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) to serve the people of India, rather become a diplomat.<\/p>\n
“I want to join IAS and not IFS (Indian Foreign Service), as I want to be in India and serve the people. Though challenging, I will get an opportunity to learn and work for the people,” Nandini said to a newspaper.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Anmol Sher Singh Bedi secured the second rank in the UPSC 2016 exams. He is an engineering graduate in computer science from BITS, Pilani.<\/p>\n
According to the results on the UPSC website, 1,099 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various central government services.<\/p>\n
They include 44 physically handicapped candidates (22 orthopedically handicapped; seven visually challenged and 15 hearing impaired). There are 220 other candidates in the waiting list.<\/p>\n
Every year the civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC in three levels\u2014 preliminary, mains and interviews \u2014 to select candidates for the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
