The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested three prominent Hurriyat leaders, including separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani\u2019s son-in-law, for allegedly receiving money from Pakistani sources such as Lashkar-e-Taiba to stir violence in Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

The three leaders who were detained are Geelani\u2019s son-in-law Altaf Shah, Ayaz Akbar, and Raja Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal.<\/p>\n

The other Hurriyat leaders \u2013 Naeem Khan, Bitte Karate and Javed Gazi Baba have been questioned at the NIA headquarters before.<\/p>\n

According to a report, some Hurriyat leaders were caught on camera admitting Pakistan\u2019s funding behind the violence in Kashmir. The money was routed through hawala, an NIA official reported.<\/p>\n

The report also revealed that Pakistan <\/a>had identified small businessmen in Saudi Arabia to send in the funds. They would indulge in over-invoicing to send in funds to the benami accounts held by separatists.<\/p>\n

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had on Friday registered a case against Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and members of Hurriyat Conference, Hizbul Mujahideen and Dukhtaren-e-Millat, under Prevention of Money Laundering Act.<\/p>\n

The ED is now expected to investigate the flow of funds through hawala and other illegal domestic and international channels for funding separatist and terror activities in the valley.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh demanded that the Hurriyat Conference should be declared as terrorist <\/a>organisation and separatist leaders be immediately jailed under the Public Safety Act of Jammu and Kashmir<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Singh further said that Hurriyat leaders should not be allowed to live in comfort while under house arrest and instead be locked up in central prisons on terrorism charges.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
