Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting on Thursday said he is surprised by the BCCI’s decision to appoint Rahul Dravid as Team India head coach. Dravid took the head coach’s position of the Indian team looking at how he has a young family at home, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dravid-Rohit era began on Wednesday with a 5-wicket win against New Zealand in the first T20I of the three-match series in Jaipur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ponting is surprised that Dravid has taken it up as well. There was a lot of chat about how happy he was in the Under-19 role he had, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ponting also revealed that he was approached for the Team India coach’s job but he had to turn it down as he cannot give the job that much time. Ponting said on the Grade Cricketers Podcast that he had a conversation with some people about it during the IPL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, India is playing its first series under the coaching of Rahul Dravid who also has some challenging upcoming away tours against New Zealand and South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
