The Shaurya Chakra awardee, Group Captain Varun Singh is the sole survivor of the army helicopter crash that took place on Wednesday. In the tragic incident, 13 officials died, including Army General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat. 11 officials who also died in the incident are Brig LS Lidder Lt Col H Singh Wg Cdr PS Chauhan Sqn Ldr K Singh JWO Das JWO Pradeep A Hav Satpal Nk Gursewak Singh Nk Jitender L\/Nk Vivek L\/Nk S Teja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Group Captain Varun Singh has been admitted to the military hospital in Wellington. According to reports, he has faced severe burns and is currently being treated. The report also states that the next 48-72 hours is very crucial for him, he has survived one night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the Shaurya Chakra awardee and he won the gallantry award for showing courage by handling his aircraft after it faced a major technical issue during his sortie in 2020. He successfully landed the Tejas fighter despite facing such a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria and comes from a family of army and politicians. His father KP Singh retired from Army as a colonel and his uncle Akhilesh Pratap Singh is the State Congress leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
