A 22-year-old from Uttar Pradesh is said to have been killed for smiting the Guru Granth Sahib with a kirpan in the inner sanctum of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Touching any article in the sanctorum is considered sacrilege. The deceased is said to have climbed into the sanctorum and hit the Granth Sahib. It must be mentioned that a Dalit farm labourer, Lakhbir Singh, was lynched at the Singhu border by Nihang Sikhs for desecrating the Granth when he touched it. Punjab is headed to the polls and the Dalit-Jat Sikh dynamics will play a significant role in who wins this year. The Congress is facing a stiff battle with former CM Amarinder Singh carving out a seat-sharing deal with the BJP. The Aam Aadmi Party is also focusing on winning the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, total active cases in the country stand at 84,565 which is the lowest in the last 569 days.
