Even imposing fresh restrictions in the national capital, the Covid-19 cases are still on a surge. According to the city health department data, the positivity rate has increased to 25 percent, which is the highest since May 4 last year.

Considering the pandemic situation in the capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has directed all private offices to opt for work from home except those which are falling in the exempted category. Meanwhile, the private and government offices are working with 50 percent capacity. In view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the city, DDMA also suspended dine-in facilities at restaurants in the city and shut down bars, and allowed only takeaway and home delivery of food items.

In a meeting, DDMA stated that the rate at which Covid-19 cases, including Omicron variant, are increasing over the last few days with the positivity rate crossing 23 percent, there is a need for stricter restrictions.

DDMA in an order stated that it has been felt necessary that some more additional restrictions are required to be imposed in Delhi to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus, including the highly contagious and transmissible Omicron variant.

The decision was made in response to an alarming increase in coronavirus and its Omicron variant cases in the country’s capital. More than 19,000 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the city yesterday, with 17 more deaths as a result of the infection.

Delhi has recorded 70 Covid-19 related deaths in the first ten days of this month, which is more than the city’s combined fatalities in the last five months.
