The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon Maccallum has opened up for the team’s decision to release their star opener Shubhman Gill ahead of the mega auction 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on Gill’s release, it was disappointing to lose the Indian youngster.\u00a0He also praised Pat Cummins saying that the bowler was brilliant for the franchise last season without being a high achiever statistically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was disappointing to lose Shubman Gill but that’s the way life is sometimes and the team will be well prepared for the upcoming auction, McCullum said on a live session for KKR.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interestingly, the franchise released youngster Shubman Gill, who was eventually roped in by newcomers Ahmedabad ahead of the mega auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite of KKR’s tough decisions ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction, the KKR have retained all-rounder Andre Russell ( Rs 12 crore), Venkatesh Iyer ( Rs 8 crore), Sunil Narine ( Rs 6 crore) and the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy ( Rs 8 crore) as their four retentions. All four players remain an important part of the side, McCullum said on franchise’s retentions ahead of the 2022 edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Knight Riders had bought an 18-year-old Shubman Gill during the IPL auction for Rs 1.8 crore in 2018. He scored 1,417 runs for the franchise in 58 matches at a strike rate of 123.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have been proven campaigners for a decade. We have all seen what Varun Chakravarthy is capable of in the last two seasons. Venkatesh Iyer was probably the story of the second half of IPL 2021,” said McCullum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
