Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Saturday came out in support of hijab-wearing students on the occasion of Saraswati Puja and said Ma Saraswati does not differentiate and gives knowledge to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming out in support of hijab-wearing Muslim girl students, Gandhi tweeted that by letting students’ hijab come in the way of their education, the country is robbing the future of the daughters of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hijab row in Karnataka has turned into a big controversy with many colleges denying entry to students wearing hijabs and Gandhi is among the top leaders who tweeted on the controversy over Muslim students’ demand for wearing the hijab in classrooms in a Karnataka college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hijab row that started in a college in Udupi spilled over to other schools across the district. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly and Congress leader Siddaramaiah alleged that the aim of this is to deprive Muslim girls of education. This is the plan of depriving female students of education. The aim is to deprive female children of education, Siddaramaiah told reporters in Bengaluru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visuals of some hijab-wearing students protesting at the gate of Bhandarkar’s Arts and Science Degree College in Kundapur, a coastal town in Karnataka’s Udupi have gone viral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women student staged the protest outside the college after the college staff had refused to let them in unless they took off their headscarves. They missed their classes for the second day on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Karnataka High Court will be heard the plea filed by 5 girls studying in Udupi’s government college on February 8. The 5 girls students of the Uduppi college had filed a petition in the high court questioning the restrictions put up by the college staff on them for wearing hijab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until the High Court comes out with an order in this regard next week, the Karnataka government has asked educational institutions to follow existing uniform-related rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
