Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh will leave jail for the first time for 21 days since his arrest. The Haryana government on Monday approved a 21-day furlough for the rape convict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of two women and the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. His case is lodged in Sunaria jail, Rohtak in separate cases of rape and murders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted on August 15, 2017, and was pronounced guilty in both cases and sentenced to 10 years of jail in each case. On January 11, 2019, the Dera chief was convicted on charges of murder of the journalist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decision of the Haryana Government to approve a 21-day furlough to Gurmeet Ram Rahim comes ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections 2022 slated for February 20. The results of the assembly elections will be announced on March 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced Charanjit Singh Channi as the chief ministerial face from the party during a virtual rally Aawaz Punjab Di. Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal led-Aam Aadmi Party announced Bhagwant Mann as the CM face of the party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
