Social activist Anna Hazare has announced that he will go on an indefinite hunger strike from February 14, 2022. The strike will be to oppose the government of Maharashtra over its decision to sell wine in walk-in stores and supermarkets. The announcement was made on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna Hazare wrote a remainder letter to Uddhav Thackrey, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, that he would launch an indefinite strike on Saturday, February 5, 2022. The first letter was sent on February 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna Hazare informed the media about the remainder letter as he received no response from the government. He also said that the government\u2019s decision to allow the sale of wine in supermarkets and grocery shops is unfortunate for the state of Maharashtra and will be dangerous for future generations. He shared that the letter was sent to both CM and Deputy CM, Ajit Pawar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement that was previously issued by the Chief Minister\u2019s office, it was said that the shelf-in-shop method can be adopted by supermarkets and stores having an area of 1,000 square feet or more for the sale of wine. These supermarkets and stores need to register under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement also said that permission to sell wine will not be granted to the supermarkets and stores near places of worship, as well as educational institutes. Neither will it be allowed in districts where prohibition is in force. Supermarkets and stores will be required to pay a fee of Rs 5,000 to acquire a license to sell wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to what Anna Hazare said, the state of Maharashtra will also witness an agitation. It will be simultaneously will the social activist\u2019s hunger strike against the sale of wine in the state. To note, Anna Hazare is 84 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
