The 37-year-old Egyptian national had been receiving treatment for her obesity, kidney and heart ailments at Abu Dhabi\u2019s Burjeel Hospital where she passed away at around\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_843554667\">4.35 am<\/span>\u00a0(local time)\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_843554668\">on Monday<\/span>\u00a0morning.<\/p>\n<p>Eman, who weighed nearly 500 kg at the beginning of this year had been airlifted to Mumbai\u2019s Saifee Hospital in February and underwent a weight loss procedure \u2013 Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery \u2013 performed by a team of doctors led by bariatric surgeon Dr Mufazzal Lakdawala.<\/p>\n<p>The Burjeel hospital had offered to take care of her medical conditions and treatment after a bitter spat broke out between Eman\u2019s sister Shaima Selim and the Saifee Hospital management in May.<\/p>\n<p>A statement issued by the Burjee Hospital said that Eman \u201cdeveloped complications from the underlying comorbid conditions including heart disease and kidney dysfunction.\u201d The hospital added that Eman had been \u201cunder the supervision of a medical team of over 20 doctors from different specialties who were managing her medical condition from the time she arrived in the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/uae\">UAE<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A resident of Alexandria in Egypt, Eman was brought to Mumbai on\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_843554669\">February 11<\/span>\u00a0this year to undergo a weight loss surgery. The surgery, performed by a medical team led by Dr Lakdawala took place on\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_843554670\">March 7<\/span>\u00a0and within a month doctors at the Saifee hospital had claimed that she had lost nearly 242 kg.<\/p>\n<p>However, while the Saifee hospital management had shared some videos of Eman\u2019s recovery, claiming that she was healing faster than they had planned, her sister Shaimaa Selim too circulated a video stating that Eman was not doing so well and that the medical team at Saifee was misleading them and the people about her actual weight loss.<\/p>\n<p>After weeks of bickering between the Saifee Hospital management and Selim, management of Burjeel Hospital stepped in and offered to take further care of Eman.
