Amidst the Russia-Ukraine war, India on Friday abstained on a US-sponsored UN security council resolution that deplored in the strongest terms about Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. India in its answer said that dialogue is the only answer to settling differences and disputed and said that they regret that the path of diplomacy was given up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution was not able to pass as Russia is a permanent member and used its veto. In the 15-member Un Security Council, the resolution received 11 votes in favour, and the three were absentations, including from India, China, and the UAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s Permanent Representative at the UN, T S Tirumurti explained its abstention and said that India is deeply disturbed by the recent turn of developments in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further said that no solution can ever arrive at the cost of human lives. Tirumurti also mentioned that all member states need to honour these principles in finding a constructive way forward. He concluded by saying for all the above-mentioned reasons, India has chosen to abstain from this resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called Russian President Vladimir Putin amidst the ongoing war and said that they urge that all efforts be made for the immediate cessation of violence and hostilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, India is working on its plan to evacuate Indians who are stranded in Ukraine. On Saturday morning, an Air India flight flew to Ukraine to evacuate its citizens. it is expected that the flight will arrive in Mumbai at 4 pm on Saturday. At the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Union Minister Piyush Goyal will welcome the evacuees. Around 1,200 Maharashtra students are stranded in war-torn Ukraine, said the state rehabilitation minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other news, Delhi and adjoining areas witnessed a surprise rainfall and hailstorm along with harsh winds on late Friday evening.<\/a> The sudden change in weather has disrupted the Delhi Metro service. Owing to the heavy rainfall, the metro route on the Yellow line is experiencing long halts at every station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
