\u201cAarushi murder case saw some of the worst reportage from Indian media\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nIndia Legal\u2019s sister concern APN discussed the acquittal of Aarushi\u2019s parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday (October 12). Dissecting the controversial murder case, Rajshri Rai, Editor-in-Chief, APN welcomed the decision of the Allahabad High Court and slammed the media for the obfuscation of the facts while reporting the case.<\/p>\n
She recalled that while reporting the case nine years ago, the media houses engaged in misreporting of facts just to garner more and more TRP. The reporting which was done during this case was the worst reporting ever done in the history of Indian journalism, she said.<\/p>\n
She said the media houses were totally devoid of responsible reporting and the facts were concocted to suit the tastes and preferences so as to grab more and more eyeballs. \u201cMany theories were propounded by the media houses that were against the Talwars thereby adjudging them as accused. After this verdict the media should do some self-introspection as far as the reporting is concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n
She recalled that she was editing the Views on News magazine at that point on time (another publication from the group) and the magazine devoted a whole issue on the murder case and exposed how the media trial was going on.<\/p>\n
Vinay Rai, Managing Editor, APN said that it was entirely the District police\u2019s fault and irresponsibility as the police took over 24 hours to search the dead body of Hemraj.<\/p>\n
Happy faces<\/strong><\/p>\nMeanwhile, the decision of the Allahabad High Court to acquit Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, parents of murdered teenage girl Aarushi, was welcomed almost everywhere.<\/p>\n
The following are some reactions:<\/strong><\/p>\nDR Maurya, Jailor, Dasna Jail<\/strong><\/p>\n\u201cRajesh and Nupur Talwar are happy, and said that they have got justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
(It is pertinent to mention here that the two were restless all through last night, continually enquiring with their lawyers and others as the possibility of the outcome. They got little sleep).<\/p>\n

CBI<\/strong><\/p>\n\u201cWe are waiting for the copy of the judgment. We will decide on our next course of action after studying it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vikram Singh (former DGP, UP)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\u201cBeing the citizen of India, we welcome this decision. If the CBI has any objection, doors are open for appeal.\u201d<\/p>\n

A TIMELINE OF EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\nMay 16, 2008<\/strong><\/p>\nAarushi Talwar, 14, the only child of dentists Rajesh and Nupur Talwar of flat no. L-32 Jalvayu Vihar in Noida, was found dead in her bedroom, her throat slit. The immediate suspect in the murder was Hemraj, family\u2019s domestic help.<\/p>\n
May 17<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Hemraj murder angle became suspect with his dead body found, lying in a pool of blood on the terrace of the flat. The door of the terrace was locked from inside.<\/p>\n
May 18<\/strong><\/p>\nNoida police\u2019s observation reveals that the two murders were done with surgical precision. They suspect that it was done by an insider, with outside attack ruled out.<\/p>\n
May 19<\/strong><\/p>\nWith Hemraj dead, the Talwars\u2019 former domestic help, Vishnu Sharma, was named as a suspect.<\/p>\n
May 21<\/strong><\/p>\nDelhi police joins the probe.<\/p>\n
May 22<\/strong><\/p>\nThe suspect range of the police increases and the police say it could be a case of honour killing. Aarushi\u2019s friends are questioned, following which the parents are identified as suspects.<\/p>\n
May 23<\/strong><\/p>\nImmediately afterwards, Rajesh Talwar was arrested for double murders.<\/p>\n
June 1<\/strong><\/p>\nWith the case getting murkier, the CBI takes over from Noida police.<\/p>\n
June 13<\/strong><\/p>\nKrishna, another domestic help of the Talwars is arrested.<\/p>\n
June 20<\/strong><\/p>\nLie detector test on Rajesh Talwar.<\/p>\n
June 25<\/strong><\/p>\nSecond lie detector test conducted on Nupur Talwar, with the first proving inconclusive.<\/p>\n
