This year, Holika Dahan is being celebrated today. On this day, people light a bonfire and burn Holika, the demon. As per beliefs, demon King Kiranyakashyap wanted his son Prahlada to worship him and not Lord Vishnu. He planned to kill Prahlada and asked her sister Holika to lure Prahalad to sit with her in a massive bonfire. Holika has a shawl that protected her from fire. When the bonfire lit, Prahalad started praying to Lord Vishnu who later summoned a gust of wind that blew away Holika’s shawl. She was burnt into ashes and Lord Vishnu saved Prahalad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
