There is a surge in petrol and diesel prices after four months. Now, the rate of fuel has been increased by over 80 paise a litre on Tuesday after a status quo on rates for four months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indian Oil Corporation informed dealers that the new rates will be effective from March 22, 6:00 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, this is the first hike in four months. The prices were earlier slashed on November 2, 2021, and at that time, the government took a series of duty cuts to keep the fuel rates unaffected despite volatility in the international crude oil market. However, the prices of crude oil shot up by over 25 per cent since its last hike in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There has also been a massive hike in global crude oil prices that exceeded the three-figure mark and reached multi-year highs earlier this month as a result of the Russia-Ukraine crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking about diesel, prices of diesel for bulk consumers have been raised by around Rs 25 per litre following a 40% increase in worldwide oil prices due to the current Russia-Ukraine conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent report by PTI states that petrol pump sales increased by a fifth this month after bulk users such as bus fleet operators and malls queued up at petrol bunks to buy fuel rather than the typical practice of ordering directly from oil firms, extending retailers’ losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
