The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the CBI on the bail plea of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, convicted in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao rape case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Issuing notice to CBI, a bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar adjourned the hearing till May 25. The bench also issued a notice to Sengar on plea seeking additional evidence under Section 391 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The counsel appearing for Sengar told the bench that they were seeking the age certificate of the victim, which would show whether she was a minor at the time of the offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kuldeep Singh Sengar had challenged the Tis Hazari Court’s decision to impose life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25 lakh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the Rs 25 lakh fine imposed on Sengar, Rs 10 lakh was directed to be paid to the victim, the court had said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The case was transferred from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi on the orders of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a BJP’s Unnao MLA, is an accused of kidnapping and raping a girl in June 2017. After the matter came into the political limelight, the BJP had expelled him from the party. Currently, he is serving his jail term in the Unnao gang rape case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n After multiple hearings in the case, the Tis Hazari court had delivered the judgment in December 2019 in which the court sentenced Sengar, Atul and 5 others to ten years in jail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
