{"id":30946,"date":"2017-11-03T17:27:37","date_gmt":"2017-11-03T11:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=30946"},"modified":"2017-11-03T17:27:41","modified_gmt":"2017-11-03T11:57:41","slug":"day-blocking-uns-terrorist-tag-masood-azhar-china-says-india-important-neighbour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/world-news\/day-blocking-uns-terrorist-tag-masood-azhar-china-says-india-important-neighbour\/","title":{"rendered":"Day after blocking UN\u2019s terrorist tag for Masood Azhar, China says India \u201cimportant neighbour\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<em>China\u2019s assistant foreign minister Chen Xiaodong says India an important neighbour; his country wants to promote bilateral relations guided by diplomacy with Chinese characteristics<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A day after it once again blocked a proposal at the United Nations which would have designated Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as a \u201cglobal terrorist\u201d, China claimed that it was ready to work with India for a \u201cconstant progress\u201d in bilateral relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The statement by the assistant foreign minister of China came even as New Delhi vociferously protested against Beijing exercising its veto \u2013 for the fourth time \u2013 to block the bid by India, US, UK and other key UN members to have Azhar, mastermind of the Pathankot terror attack, designated as a global terrorist. India had described China\u2019s move as \u201caccommodating with terrorism\u201d for narrow objectives.<\/p>\n<p>A global terrorist tag for Azhar by the UN\u2019s sanctions committee would have meant that all accounts of the JeM chief in banks or financial institutions across the world would have been frozen and he would have been banned from traveling to any country out of Pakistan, effectively leading up to his arrest. However, Beijing is learnt to have conveyed to the UN that \u201cthere is no consensus\u201d \u00a0within the members of the sanctions committee on declared Azhar as a global terrorist.<\/p>\n<p>With India dubbing China\u2019s move as one that is \u201cshort-sighted and counter-productive\u201d, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong, on Friday, told the media that China attached great importance to its relations with India.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia is an important neighbour of China,\u201d Chen said, adding that his country plans to step up ties with neighbours under the \u201cneighbourhood diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era\u201d enunciated by President Xi Jinping during the recently concluded key Congress of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready to work with India to promote constant progress of bilateral relations guided by this diplomacy with Chinese characteristics for the new era,\u201d Chen was quoted as saying by various media agencies\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_524540998\">on Friday<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The junior foreign minister said that China has been following this concept and vision over the past few years in its cooperation with the neighbours and deepening mutual political trust promoting practical cooperation with them.<\/p>\n<p>In the last two years, China has stonewalled efforts by India to declare Azhar as a global terrorist.<\/p>\n<p>Last year in March, China was the only member in the 15-nation UN organ to put a hold on India\u2019s application with all other 14 members of the Council supporting New Delhi\u2019s bid to place Azhar on the 1267 sanctions list that would subject him to an assets freeze and travel ban.<\/p>\n<p>The relations between India and China are still in a thawing phase after they were substantially strained during the recent 73-day standoff at Doklam over Chinese army\u2019s plans to build a strategic road in the area also claimed by Bhutan and one which is extremely close to the Indian border.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in Beijing said that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel next month to New Delhi to attend the Russia, India, China (RIC) Foreign Ministers meeting during which he would also hold talks with the Indian leadership on the bilateral relations during the second term of Chinese President Xi Jinping.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]China\u2019s assistant foreign minister Chen Xiaodong says India an important neighbour;
