He is also general secretary of the\u00a0Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission\u00a0(CMC), the overall high command of the 2.3 million <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/peoples-liberation-army-pla\">People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He was quoted saying, &#8220;The CMC should lead the armed forces to be ready to fight and win wars, and to undertake the missions and tasks of the new era entrusted to them by the party and the people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Xi has highlighted the role of the armed forces for the second time since securing endorsement of the key Congress of the ruling CPC on October 24. He heads the powerful Central Military Commission and is the only civilian leader in the body which is packed of top armed forces officials.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/xi-jinping\">Chinese President Xi Jinping <\/a>began his second term with a meeting of top military officials after CPC Congress endorsed his leadership for another term and also conferred on a powerful status, equal to party founder Mao Zedong.<\/p>\n<p>He also asked the military officials to pioneer reforms and innovation, to scientifically manage commanding a unit and to lead troops in accordance with the strictest standards.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in a video chat with Chinese troops based in Djbouti, President Xi Jinping said that they should help promote peace and stability and build good image overseas.
