However, Gen Rawat stated that there is a need of upgrading the weapons of the Army as the technology is gradually advancing.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media after the bicentenary celebration of the 9 Gotkha Rifles at 39 Gorkha Training Centre in Varanasi, the Army chief said, \u201cThe Army has no shortage of arms. We have to keep modernizing weapons, arms as the technology is upgrading, and we are trying to bring in new and modernised technique ones in our Army.<\/p>\n<p>Under a recently finalized plan, the Army had earlier said that it will be acquiring a large number of light machine guns, battle carbines and assault rifles at a cost of about Rs 40,000 crore. According to an official source, the Army, with the nod from the Defense Ministry will be acquiring 7 lakh rifles, 44,000 light machine guns (LMGs) and nearly 44,600 carbines. Being the world\u2019s second largest standing army, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/indian-army\">Indian Army<\/a> is now fast-tracking the procurement of its weapon system, keeping in mind the escalating security threats along the country\u2019s borders with Pakistan and China.<\/p>\n<p>Over the ongoing unrest in Kashmir, Gen Rawat stated that the stone pelting incidents in the valley have decreased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStone pelting incidents have come down to some extent. The Army, the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/jammu-and-kashmir\">Jammu and Kashmir<\/a> Police are working together in the state. Solution to this can&#8217;t be achieved overnight. The government, intelligence agencies, state administration all are making efforts. Will be successful if things go in this direction, can say this with belief,\u201d said Gen Rawat.<\/p>\n<p>Gen Rawat, along with his family, is on a two-day visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/varanasi\">Varanasi<\/a> to attend the bicentenary celebration of 9 Gorkha Rifles at 39 Gorkha Training Centre.
