However, they raised objection to the word \u2018Pappu\u2019, saying it is derogatory. They asked us to remove or replace it,\u201d a senior BJP leader was quoted by agencies as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BJP leader further said: \u201cSince there was no direct mention or linkage with any person while mentioning \u2018Pappu\u2019 in the entire script, we had appealed to the committee to reconsider their decision, but they rejected it. Now, we will change that word and submit a new script for approval.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sources said that state BJP\u2019s media wing had submitted the video last month to the ECI for approval.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The video features a character called \u2018Pappu\u2019 and when he visits the grocery store, a staff comments: \u201cSir\u00a0pappu bhai aaye lagte hain\u00a0(seems Pappu has come).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BJP spokespersons have lambasted the decision of ECI. Sambit Patra was quoted as saying, \u201cThe EC has made this word Pappu official and made it synonymous with Rahul Gandhi.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli has urged a justification from the poll panel on why the video has been blocked. \u201cElection Commission should explain as to why it is considering Pappu as derogatory,\u201d Kohli was quoted as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elections will be held in Gujarat on December 9 and 14 in Gujarat; results will be declared on December 18.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Election Commission of India (ECI) has barred the BJP from using the word \u2018Pappu\u2019 in its media campaign ahead of the upcoming Gujarat elections.
