The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday warned the people of South India that the Cyclone Asani is intensifying over the east-central Bay of Bengal. The cyclone packing wind speed of more than 75 kmph is likely to transform into a severe storm in the next 24 hours, IMD said.<\/p>\n\n\n

Umashankar Das, Senior Scientist, IMD said the cyclone which formed in the early hours of Sunday around 5:30 am was about 380 kilometers southeast of Port Blair and 970 kilometers southeast of Vishakhapatnam,1020 km in the southeast direction from Puri, and was moving north-westwards towards\u00a0the east coast.<\/p>\n\n\n
