The cyclone packing wind speed of more than 75 kmph is likely to transform into a severe storm in the next 24 hours, IMD said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Umashankar Das, Senior Scientist, IMD said the cyclone which formed in the early hours of Sunday around 5:30 am was about 380 kilometers southeast of Port Blair and 970 kilometers southeast of Vishakhapatnam,1020 km in the southeast direction from Puri, and was moving north-westwards towards\u00a0the east coast.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Deep Depression over intensified into a cyclonic storm \u2018Asani\u2019 about380 km west of Port Blair (Andaman Islands).To move northwestwards and intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over east central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3AkJAtHIxw\">pic.twitter.com\/3AkJAtHIxw<\/a><\/p>&mdash; India Meteorological Department (@Indiametdept) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Indiametdept\/status\/1523151476851625984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 8, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>It is predicted to continue moving northwest towards north Andhra Pradesh with a severe intensity until the evening of May 10, bringing winds of 105-115 km\/hr with gusts up to 125 km\/hr over the sea. However, according to the current estimates, it is unlikely to make landfall over\u00a0the east coast.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Rainfall is also expected to start on the evening of May 10th, according to Das. A yellow rain warning has been issued for three districts: Gajpati, Ganjam, and Puri.
