In the latest update in the Gyanvapi mosque row, an advocate of the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee who manages the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Monday said that the claim of petitioners about Shivling is misleading. He said that the thing that has been found in the Wazookhana is a fountain, not Shivling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rais Ahmad Ansari said that there is only a fountain in the Wajookhana in the Gyanvapi mosque. The structure, which the petitioners are claiming to be a Shivling is a fountain. It is a misleading claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His statement came soon after the Varanasi court ordered that a pond in the Gyanvapi mosque complex should be sealed over the claims of Shivling and prohibit the entry of any person to the area. The court order was based on a petition that was filed by an advocate that there was some concrete evidence that needed to be protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supreme Court bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud will hear this case on Tuesday that is May 17 an appeal that has been filed by the masjid committee against the Allahabad High Court’s order allowing the court-appointed commissioner to the inspector, conduct a survey and videography of the Gyanvapi Mosque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An advocate from the Hindu side, Madan Mohan Yadav, claimed that the Shivling is Nandi faced and is 12 feet by 8 inches in diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gyanvapi Mosque is adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. Currently, the court in Varanasi has directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to probe the structure of the Gyanvapi Masjid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 18, 2021, five Delhi based women- Rakhi Singh, Laxmi Devi, Sita Sahu, among others moved the court with their plea where they sought permission for daily prayers before the idols of Hindu deities on its outer walls. They also sought to stop the opponents from causing any damage to the idols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
