Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has denied a Rajya Sabha ticket to his party colleague and Union steel minister RCP Singh. The move is being seen as a sign that Kumar is upset with his ally BJP in Bihar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this move, Kumar has signaled that for now, he will have no one from his Janata Dal United (JDU) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If Singh is not given an extension for 6 months or Nitish\u2019s new Rajya Sabha nominee does not take Singh\u2019s place in the Union cabinet, it will mean that the JDU has chosen to quit Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bihar allies- BJP and JDU- have been bickering with each other and Kumar has been drifting close to the Opposition RJD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The denial of ticket leaves steel minister Singh with little option but to resign. He can continue for 6 more months if the Prime Minister wants him to, risking a break-up with Nitish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singh is the only JDU minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet. He apparently paid for his proximity to the BJP and may have to step down soon as his Rajya Sabha term will end in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singh said he was grateful at being denied a Rajya Sabha seat. Whatever he decided is in his interest and have not done anything to date that should make anyone upset, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nitish Kunar has given the Rajya Sabha ticket to JDU Jharkhand unit president Khiru Mahto, who belongs to the same Kurmi caste as Singh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar will see voting on June 10 with RJD\u2019s Misa Bharti, BJP leaders Satish Chand Dubey and Gopal Narayan Singh, and JD(U)\u2019s Ram Chandra Prasad retiring in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
