These comments were criticised by several Muslim groups and also led to communal violence in Uttar Pradesh&#8217;s Kanpur which left 40 injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon the outrage spread across the globe and India received a massive backlash with several hashtags trending on social media. Following the outrage, BJP suspended the membership of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal. The BJP&#8217;s national general secretary, Arun Singh issued a statement which read that the party does not condone insults to any religion and respects all faiths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An FIR was also filed against Sharma at Pydhonie Police Station in Mumbai under sections 295A (hurting religious feelings), 153A (promoting enmity) and 505B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
