Hours after facing huge international backlash over its suspended spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s comments on Prophet Muhammad, the BJP has now set new boundaries for its spokespersons and leaders joining TV debates.

In its new advisory for the spokespersons and media representatives for TV debate, the BJP has directed its spokespersons and media officials to focus on the government’s welfare schemes and works rather than the religious rhetoric.

The rulling party also said only authorised spokespersons and panelists will be participated in debates and they have been warned against criticising any religion, symbols or religious figures. The BJP representatives in media debates will be assigned by the party’s media cell, the party said.

The BJP has ordered its spokespersons to first check for the topic of the TV debate, prepare for it and find out the party’s line on it before appearing on any channel. They have been forbidden from crossing the line during heated discussions, the party said.

The BJP’s spokespersons and panelists should stay on the agenda and not fall into any trap, a report said.

Keep their language restrained and not get agitated or excited and keep aside the party’s ideology, the rulling party ordered. The BJP also wants its spokespersons to focus on the government’s social welfare work.
