The BSF action came a day after BSF jawan RP Hazra was martyred during an unprovoked cross-border firing by the Pakistani rangers in Samba sector of Jammu.

Amid escalating tension along the border in Jammu and Kashmir, the Border Security Force (BSF) has now launched \u2018Operation Alert\u2019 along the International Border (IB) in the valley.<\/p>\n

Stating that the operation has been launched to curb the increasing attempts of infiltration from across the border, Inspector General of BSF Jammu Frontier, Ram Awatar said, “There are inputs that there is movement of militants and accordingly, we have declared ‘Ops Alert’ on the border.”<\/p>\n

The BSF action came a day after BSF jawan RP Hazra was martyred during an unprovoked cross-border firing by the Pakistani rangers in Samba sector of Jammu. While the attack marks as the first ceasefire violation of the year by the neighboring country, Indian armed force had launched retaliatory fire since the violation.<\/p>\n

The BSF <\/a>on Thursday gave a military send off by organizing Wreath-laying ceremony at Frontier headquarters in Jammu to honor the sacrifice of the late BSF trooper. Other than senior BSF officials and jawans, J&K DGP Dr S P Vaid, IGP Jammu Zone, Dr S D Singh and Ram Awtar too attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is because of that alertness that they have acted like that (resorting to sniper firing). The moral of the BSF is high and will continue to remain high,\u201d said Awtar.<\/p>\n

Claiming that the Pakistani rangers had been trying to counter Indian attempts to restore peace in the valley, the IG added, \u201cIt is because of this machination of Pakistan <\/a>that they yesterday martyred one jawan by sniping.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also on Thursday, the BSF killed an intruder along the International Border in Jammu district. Reportedly, the armed force at the border has also destroyed two Pakistani posts in retaliation to Wednesday\u2019s unprovoked firing \u2013 which claimed the life of one jawan.<\/p>\n

According to Ram Awtar, the Indian troopers observed movement of two-three people along the IB near Nikowal Border Out Post (BoP) in Arnia sector of the valley in the early hours of the day. While the other intruders managed to escape, one among them was killed while the BSF challenged them and opened fire.<\/p>\n

According to a BSF spokesperson, \u201ctwo Pakistani mortar positions were located, targeted and destroyed by BSF troopers yesterday night only. The coordinated precision fire of BSF troopers silenced Pakistani guns”.<\/p>\n

In a separate violation of ceasefire, Pakistan also initiated firing and shelling at posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir <\/a>on Wednesday night. Reportedly, the exchange of fire along the border continued throughout the night.<\/p>\n
