{"id":37302,"date":"2018-02-02T15:56:53","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T10:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=37302"},"modified":"2018-02-02T15:59:09","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T10:29:09","slug":"kasganj-violence-chandan-guptas-kin-provided-police-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/kasganj-violence-chandan-guptas-kin-provided-police-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"Kasganj violence: Chandan Gupta\u2019s kin provided police protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Reportedly, Chandan\u2019s father Sushil Gupta claimed that he was sitting outside his house when unknown people came on a bike and threatened him.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Days after violent clashes broke out at Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Kasganj city with the killing of 22-year-old Chandan Gupta during a \u2018tiranga bike rally\u2019 on the Republic Day, the UP police on Friday deployed personnel to provide security for the parents of the victim, after they claimed to have been threatened by unknown people.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, Chandan\u2019s father claimed that he was sitting outside his house when some people came on a bike and threatened him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur lives are under threat, we demand licence for firearms for our safety and security,\u201d said Chandan\u2019s father Sushil Gupta.<\/p>\n<p>Days back, the police claimed to have arrested the man who had shot Chandan during the communal clashes last week. According to the police, the accused runs a cloth store in Kasganj and two of his brothers have also been named with connection with the killing.<\/p>\n<p>Anand Kumar, senior police officer in charge of law and order said, \u201c(Saleem) fired from either the roof or the balcony of his house, as per statements of some witnesses. Some weapons were recovered in the last two days and we are hoping to do a ballistics match between them and the bullet found in Chandan&#8217;s body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chandan Gupta (22) died in a clash that followed when a participants in a \u201cTiranga bike rally\u201d on Republic Day by activists of the RSS-backed students&#8217; groups, ABVP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad entered a lane where Muslims were hoisting the national flag and tried to make them shout Vande Mataram and hoist saffron flag along with the tri-colour.<\/p>\n<p>The parents of the commerce student said that Gupta was involved in several non-profit activities like blanket distribution and blood donation drives.<\/p>\n<p>Three days after the communal clash in Kasganj, the state government on Monday transferred the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Kumar Singh to the Police Training School in Meerut, replacing him with Piyush Srivastava.<\/p>\n<p>Terming the violence as a \u201cblot\u201d on the state, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik asked the government to ensure such incidents don\u2019t recur.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Naik said, \u201cWhatever happened in Kasganj was not good. The incident there is a \u2018kalank\u2019 (blot) for UP. The government is probing the incident. It should initiate effective measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on January 28, declared an ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the family of Chandan, his father and mother refused the monetary compensation from the state and demanded a martyr status for their son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe [Chandan] must have thought that since these rallies were carried out every year, this time also the rally would pass peacefully through the Muslim dominated area. But they caught my son and beat him. He was not part of any outfit like ABVP. Police didn&#8217;t kill my son, Muslims did. They fired 50-60 rounds and pelted stones on the rally. We don\u2019t want any money or compensation.
