Days after the Delhi police detained three minors for allegedly beating to death a Class 9 student of a private school in the national capital, the police on Saturday apprehended the fourth accused in the case.

According to the police, the fourth accused, who is also a student of the same school, had been absconding till the police nabbed him on Saturday.

In a killing with much resemblance with the murder of Ryan International School student Pradyuman Thakur, a Class 9 student of the Jeevan Jyoti Senior Secondary School in Sadatpur area in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar was found dead inside the washroom of the school on Thursday.

A day after the murder, the Delhi police on Friday detained three boys of the same private school for allegedly beating their classmate, Tushar Kumar, to death.

With the accused boys, aged around 15 years, facing murder charges for killing Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of police (northeast), AK Singla said that the police nabbed the accused with the help of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage. Reportedly, a group of boys were seen following Kumar to the toilet of the school where he was found dead.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Singla said, “During the questioning of those boys, it emerged that Tushar was punched by three of his classmates in the toilet. On Thursday morning, there was an argument between the boy and the three accused and later when he went to the toilet, they followed him there and thrashed him.”

While the family members of the Class 9 student claimed that their son was beaten to death, the Jeevan Jyoti School authorities maintained that Kumar was unwell and that led to his death.

“Based on the admissions of the apprehended boys as well as the CCTV footage, we have dropped the provision of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and added section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code,” said Singla.

Singla stated that no visible injuries were found on Kumar’s body while he was found by the police on Thursday. However, he also added that while interrogating the three accused boys, it emerged that the victim had been punched on the face and neck.

With the medical board yet to conduct an autopsy of the victim, an investigator suggested that Kumar might have died due to internal injuries.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
