The police on Sunday said the villagers thrashed them over allegations of practicing witchcraft in Aswari village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saryahat police station in-charge Vinay Kumar said the family was also tortured with a hot iron rod and parts of their bodies were also burnt. The police rescued the people and said the inhumane torture started on Saturday night and continued till Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NK Singh, Inspector, Saraiyahat Police Station, said some villagers first thrashed the women brutally after branding them witches, and later human excreta and urine were forcibly put in their mouths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victims have been admitted to the community health centre in Saryahat. However, the doctors referred two of the victims to a hospital in Deoghar for better treatment as their condition was serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police have arrested six people who were involved in torturing the family. The police have identified the accused and said they reside in the same village as the victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Torture committed under the pretext of witchcraft is a major social evil&nbsp;in the state. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 590 persons were killed between 2001 and 2020, predominantly women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other news, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/mob-attack-muslim\/\">a mob allegedly assaulted a group of Muslim men<\/a><\/strong> on the suspicion of cow theft in Deosar tehsil of Madhya Pradesh&#8217;s Singrauli district.
