Amul marketer The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has increased the prices of full cream milk and buffalo milk by Rs 2 per litre. RS Sodhi, Managing Director of GCMMF, informed about the new rate card on Saturday and said it would be applicable across all states except Gujarat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the price of full cream milk was Rs 61 per litre, but now it has increased to Rs 63 per litre. However, Amul hasn’t released an official statement about when the changes in price will happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the third hike this year. Earlier in August, the milk marketer hiked the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre on August 16 due to a rise in input costs. Prior to that, milk prices were hiked in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amul, in a statement said the increase of Rs 2 per litre translates into a 4 per cent increase in maximum retail price (MRP), which is lower than average food inflation. The statement reads, This price hike is being implemented due to an increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk. The cattle feeding cost alone has increased to approximately 20 per cent compared to last year. Considering the rise in input costs, our member unions have also increased farmers’ prices by an average of 8\u20139 per cent over the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amit Shah, speaking at the North Eastern Council’s (NEC) 70th plenary session on October 9, had stated previously that Amul would combine with five other cooperative societies to form a multi-state cooperative society (MSCS). After certification, the MSCS will ensure the export of the goods so that farmers can get their profits immediately into their bank accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
