{"id":39579,"date":"2018-03-12T20:08:56","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T14:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=39579"},"modified":"2018-03-12T20:08:57","modified_gmt":"2018-03-12T14:38:57","slug":"40-killed-in-us-bangla-plane-crash-at-kathmandu-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/world-news\/40-killed-in-us-bangla-plane-crash-at-kathmandu-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"40 killed in US-Bangla plane crash at Kathmandu airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Forty people have died in an air-crash involving US-Bangla airlines plane at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital on Monday afternoon.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Kathmandu Post reports that Nepal Police Director General Manoj Neupane said that there were 71 people including four crew members on board the 78-seater Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The ill-feted plane took off from Dhaka, Bangladesh and crashed at 2:18 pm local time while landing.\u00a0Kamrul Islam, the head of public relations of the US-Bangla airline also confirmed the figures.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Neupane said 31 bodies were pulled out from the crashed plane and nine others were declared dead at different hospitals. Now twenty-two people are receiving treatment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">According to TIA spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur, the aircraft\u00a0with call sign S2-AGU\u00a0caught fire after it careened off the runway during landing and crashed onto a foot-ball ground near TIA.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39582\" src=\"http:\/\/s3apnlivemumbai.s3-website.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/apnlive\/uploads\/2018\/03\/pic-12.jpg\" alt=\"40 killed in US-Bangla plane crash at Kathmandu airport\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" \/>In an earlier statement Suresh Acharya, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism said that 25 injured passengers were rescued and sent to different hospitals for treatment. TIA said there were 37 males, 27 females and two children onboard the aircraft. There were 33 Nepali passengers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Meanwhile, Sanjiv Gautam, the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said that the plane was out of control when it attempted to land on the runway. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The aircraft was permitted to land from the Southern side of the runway over Koteshwor but it landed from the Northern side,\u201d said Gautam suspecting the aircraft might have sustained some technical glitches. \u201cWe are yet to ascertain the reason behind the unusual landing,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Rescue team of TIA and Nepal Army personnel rushed the accident site following the crash. All flights in and out of TIA were cancelled following the mishap.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">US-Bangla Airlines is a privately owned Bangladeshi airline headquartered in Dhaka and based at Shahjalal International Airport.
