Panellists feel that the tabling of the no-trust vote in parliament may simply be in preparation of 2019 polls and with no other agenda<\/i><\/p>\n

The no-confidence motion against the NDA government, pitched by Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu\u2019s Telugu Desam Party and by YSR Congress, was not taken up\u00a0on Monday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0as the Lok Sabha was adjourned till\u00a0Tuesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0after protests by lawmakers.\u00a0However, the fallout of the TDP demand is that many opposition leaders have joined hands on the \u201coust-Modi government\u201d issue.\u00a0APN<\/i>\u2019s popular debate\u00a0Mudda<\/i>\u00a0took up the issue. Anchor person Akshay posed the questions to panelists including\u00a0BJP\u2019s Ashok Goyal, CPI\u2019s Vivek Shrivastava, political expert Atul Chandra, and\u00a0APN<\/i>consultant Govind Pant Raju.<\/p>\n

Goyal said that the government has a good majority and the opposition is only trying to secure brownie points.<\/p>\n

Shrivastava said that though the Modi government<\/a> has the numbers, it has no moral right to continue. \u201cThe opposition is united against Modi right now,\u201d he said. Regarding the no-trust vote, he added that the opposition is doing what it\u2019s been mandated to do.<\/p>\n

Chandra said that in 2003 when Vajpayee was PM, a no-trust vote was tabled, but the motion was defeated by 312 votes. The fallout of the move was that Vajpayee had responded to Sonia Gandhi\u2019s queries, and Lok Sabha polls were advanced by a few days. \u201cIt is certain the no-trust vote shall not be passed, but the fallout will be felt in Karnataka and Orissa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Raju said that for the first time the Modi government has got this kind of jolt, but this no-trust vote regarding a regional demand looks like washing one\u2019s hands when the water is flowing. \u201cThese demands are not concerned with the policies of the centre, which would have been tough for Modi to handle, but the opposition is sure to rattle Modi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chandra said coalition governments have their own set of problems. \u201cNaidu has only 25 MPs, it\u2019s a regional issue, but can the opposition promise, that if voted to power, they shall give a special package to Andhra as demanded?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

Shrivastava said this is not just about a local issue. The\u00a0mudda\u00a0<\/i>might be that, but the issue has started a kind of opposition unity, in that way, this move is significant.<\/p>\n

Goyal said the opposition knows that their\u00a0mudda<\/i>\u00a0is weak, and the BJP has nothing to worry. \u201cModi government has been devoted to\u00a0sabka sath sabka vikas<\/i>, so the popular sentiment is still with Modi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Shrivastava said it\u2019s the right of the opposition to oppose, and we will give a tough fight to Modi in 2019.<\/p>\n

Akshay pointed out that after 11 days of protest, what\u2019s the gain? He wanted to know if these shenanigans are in view of the upcoming polls.<\/p>\n

Chandra said that this is only a way to address one\u2019s own constituency. The motion has not been moved, but to the people the opposition can say that the move was not allowed to be tabled. \u201cThe protest is viable only when the no-trust motion is tabled. It looks like the opposition only wants to give veiled threats. If the no-trust motion is tabled, it might give a symbolic victory to the opposition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Goyal said the opposition is making false statements. People of the country have approved Modi\u2019s policies, the opposition is being squeezed out.<\/p>\n

Raju said though it\u2019s too early to say, it looks like AIADMK will not go with the government in 2019.<\/p>\n

Shrivastava said we need to evolve a common minimum programme so that the opposition parties can also achieve their goals. He did not want to disclose strategies that the opposition is adopting in preparation of the tabling of the no-trust vote.<\/p>\n
