On the other hand, China\u2019s influence over India\u2019s neighbours is growing.\u00a0<em>APN\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0popular debate\u00a0<em>Mudda<\/em>\u00a0wanted to know what exactly is the government policy vis-\u00e0-vis neighbours? Anchorperson\u00a0Anant posed the questions to panelist including BJP\u2019s Yogesh Verma, Congress\u2019s Ajay Verma, former diplomat JK Tripathi, defence expert Col Ramdev Singh, defence expert Retd Maj Gen PK Sehgal, and\u00a0<em>APN\u00a0<\/em>consultant Govind Pant Raju.<\/p>\n<p>Yogesh Verma said: \u201cThe government does not have a soft policy. We have been giving a tit-for-tat response to Pakistan. Moreover, Pakistan has been isolated internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tripathi said: \u201cPoK was always a problem area for us. There\u2019s no instant solution for this. We should aggressively defend our stand. SAARC could not be held in Pakistan, though Pakistan has been mobilizing support for SAARC in Nepal and Bangladesh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ajay Verma said: \u201cThe government needs to come clear on its policies and intentions vis a vis Pakistan, Chan and Myanmar. It is said that China is supporting Pakistan. Our defence budget should go up. We need to be pro-active.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Col Ramdev Singh said: \u201cIt\u2019s clear that China is backing Pakistan. China has been putting pressure amongst all neighbours. d should be suitably allocated to make way for modernisation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sehgal said: \u201cPak army, the ISI and the judiciary has stifled democracy there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raju said: \u201cPakistan army has hijacked the system there.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Yogesh Verma said: \u201dThe Army has been given a free hand in Pakistan. There is no factory in Pakistan, and its economy is weak. We need to realise the enemy is both foolish and irrational.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Ajay Verma said: \u201cWhere is the 56 inch chest we have been hearing about so much? Border security should be fixed first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sehgal said: \u201cI would like to ask Mr Ajay Verma, what the Congress did when it was in power? We are still failing in providing bullet proof vests and jackets to our troops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Col Ramdev Singh said: \u201cIt\u2019s true that we are failing in provide troops with equipment etc at the right time. Still, when it comes to a fight, Indian troops are able to challenge the enemy well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tripathi said: \u201cChina\u2019s interference is not new.\u00a0\u00a0There is no permanent friendship in international affairs. Since India is no longer buying arms from Russia, it is moving towards Pakistan. After all, it has to sell its arms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raju said: \u201cR&amp;D in defence has been rather slow, it has been caught in the bureaucratic red tape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yogesh Verma said: \u201cWe are importing technology, and it\u2019s Modi\u2019s priority to boost innovation in the defence sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tripathi said: \u201cIt\u2019s wrong to indulge in party politics. We can\u2019t give credit for all the good work to Modi alonem, as in many cases he has ben continuing the work done by the previous governments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raju said: \u201cThe earlier governments made some achievements, and also faulted on some areas.
