The State Election Commission announced on Sunday that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) overall voting percentage for all 250 wards was approximately 45 per cent as of 4 pm.

The overall voter turnout for the Delhi civic elections on Sunday was just approximately 30 per cent, which may be considered a lukewarm response to the AAP and BJP’s high-pitched campaign. This is an increase from an even worse turnout of 18 per cent up until noon and 9 per cent up until 10.30 am.

Following a dip in temperature, the voting percentage in national capital civic bodies reached 18 per cent till 12 noon.

Just about 9 per cent of eligible voters had cast ballots as of Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, said the State Election Commission. This low voter participation was a result of Delhi’s chilly winter.

Elections for civic bodies are currently taking place in the national capital under heavy security.

According to the State Election Commission, a large team of election officials and security organisations made enormous efforts to make the essential preparations for holding elections at 13,638 polling stations dispersed around Delhi.

68 model polling places have been set up with amenities including a waiting space or lounge, candy or toffee delivery to voters, a selfie station, and Civil Defence Volunteers to assist those with disabilities and senior residents.

A feeding room for nursing mothers, a creche for young children accompanying voters, swings for children, and a selfie booth are among the amenities set up in the 68 pink booths.

These steps are necessary to maintain electoral integrity and guarantee that all political parties and candidates have an equal opportunity to compete.

The BJP and the AAP have both professed confidence that they will win the elections, while the Congress is attempting to reclaim lost ground.

In the first municipal election held in the capital following the ward delineation, the BJP, which has controlled the civic body in Delhi since 2007, is hoping to continue its winning ways while the Aam Aadmi Party, which holds a majority in the Assembly, is hoping to gain ground.

After the new delimitation procedure, this is the first civic election. From 2012 until 2022, Delhi had 272 wards and three corporations—NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC—which were later reunified into an MCD, which had officially been established on May 22.
