The Karnataka government has decided to change the names of \u2018Salaam Aarti\u2019, \u2018Salaam Mangal Aarti And \u2018Deevatige Salaam\u2019, which have been practiced for hundreds of years in the temples of 18th century King Tipu Sultan. Karnataka government minister Shashikala Jolle said that the government has decided to change the names of ‘Salaam Aarti’, ‘Deevtige Salam’ and ‘Salaam Mangal Aarti’ in the temples of Tipu Sultan to local names. However, the minister made it clear that this tradition will not be stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Jolle added that it has been decided that now the name of Deevatige Salaam will be Deevatige Namaskar, Salaam Aarti will be named Aarti Namaskar and Salaam Mangal Aarti will be named Mangal Aarti. This decision is based on the opinion of the senior priests of the department. A circular will also be issued in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shashikala Jolle further said that in the meeting of the State Religious Council of Karnataka, some members had drawn attention to the fact that some devotees have demanded to change the names of these Aartis. There was a wide discussion on this in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Shashikala Jolle said that the customs will continue according to the tradition as before. Only the names were being changed. The name will include words from the Hindi language. It is being said that the Karnataka government has taken this step on Tipu Sultan according to the stand of the ruling BJP government. Significantly, BJP and some Hindu organizations see Tipu Sultan as a ‘brutal killer’. Apart from this, some Kannada organizations also call Tipu Sultan anti-Kannada.
