{"id":42027,"date":"2018-04-23T17:36:14","date_gmt":"2018-04-23T12:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=42027"},"modified":"2018-04-23T17:38:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-23T12:08:00","slug":"rahul-gandhi-attacks-modi-govt-save-constitution-campaign-says-wants-destroy-institutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/politics\/rahul-gandhi-attacks-modi-govt-save-constitution-campaign-says-wants-destroy-institutions\/","title":{"rendered":"Rahul Gandhi attacks Modi govt at Save the Constitution campaign, says it wants to destroy all institutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/topic\/rahul-gandhi\">Congress president Rahul Gandhi<\/a> on Monday, April 23 attacked the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying they are bent upon destroying all institutions of the country that are based on the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the launch of the Congress party&#8217;s &#8220;Save the Constitution&#8221; campaign, Gandhi said that institutions such as the Supreme Court, high courts, the Lok Sabha, assemblies and the Election Commission have been built on the basis of the Constitution which has been given to the country by Dr BR Ambedkar and the Congress.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged that people with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background were being inducted in these institutions by the BJP-led government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has happened for the first time that four judges of the Supreme Court went to the people to seek justice. The Supreme court is being crushed, it is being suppressed. Parliament was not allowed to run,&#8221; Gandhi said.<\/p>\n<p>Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was afraid to face Parliament on issues like the PNB fraud scam, deportation of Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallaya and the Rafale fighter deal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If I am allowed to speak for 15 minutes on Rafale issue in Parliament before Modi, he will not be able to withstand it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the second half of the budget session of Parliament, Gandhi said it was for the first time that the treasury benches &#8220;disrupted&#8221; the Houses though it was normally the opposition which does so.<\/p>\n<p>Gandhi alleged that RSS ideology ran counter to the Indian Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This ideology that runs counter to this document&#8230; The SC and ST Atrocities Act is being eroded and weakened,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the country may burn, girls may be raped and the rights of scheduled castes and minorities may be under a threat, but Modi was merely interested in being the prime minister.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting from what he described as a statement by Modi, the Congress leader said the prime minister saw spirituality in sanitation work undertaken by Dalits. But people know there was no place for the community, weaker sections of society and women in his heart, Gandhi added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dalits die, atrocities are visited on them and other minorities, women and girls are raped and all he wants to know is that he is PM, and how to stay PM is all he&#8217;s interested in\u2026In cleaning toilets there&#8217;s spirituality (for others, according to Modi), but Modi gets spirituality only from being PM,&#8221; said Gandhi.<\/p>\n<p>Attacking the prime minister on employment and other promises made by him before the last Lok Sabha polls, Gandhi said Modi would now come up with new promises for votes.<\/p>\n<p>He made special mention of the BJP slogan of &#8216;Beti Bechao, Beti Padhao&#8217; (Save the girl child, educate the girl child) and said the BJP is now reduced to the slogan &#8216;BJP se beti bachao&#8217; or &#8216;Save the girl child&#8211;from BJP MLAs&#8217;. Gandhi was referring to the fact that two now-ex BJP ministers in Kashmir marched to support rape accused persons and that a BJP MLA from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh is a rape accused.<\/p>\n<p>Gandhi said IMF chief Christine Lagarde had told Modi recently that atrocities were being committed against women in India.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She told him that your government was not doing the right thing for Indian women, was not helping them and atrocities were being committed against them.
