Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya are soon to go poll bound. Regarding the same, the Election Commission is going to hold a press conference on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.

According to reports, the Elections Commission will announce the dates of elections in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura. All the three states may go to polls in the middle of February.

The three assemblies’ terms are coming to an end in March on different days.

The ECI said on Saturday that it would deliver an election in Nagaland as required by the Constitution.

Before the state election, Naga civil societies have been calling for a resolution to the contentious Naga Political Issue, while the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization has said it will not take part in the election process until their demand for a separate state made up of the six eastern districts is granted.

The current Nagaland Assembly’s tenure ends on March 12, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

When asked about the state election dates, Kumar responded that the commission was receiving input from the three Northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland and that they will convene another meeting in accordance with procedure before announcing the dates.

He asserted that there is no way to go back, not even technologically, in response to the political parties’ demand that ballots be used instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
