Right-wing students\u2019 group Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Sunday, alleged that members of the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) desecrated a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj even as the left-leaning students\u2019 union accused the RSS-linked group of assaulting them while they had taken out a protest march seeking justice for a IIT student who allegedly died of suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per reports, the JNUSU had staged a protest march seeking justice for the 18-year-old Darshan Solanki\u2014an IIT Bombay student belonging to a Scheduled Caste community who allegedly committed suicide on February 12\u2014however, the JNUSU members were allegedly attacked by ABVP members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Solanki, allegedly jumped to his death from seventh floor of a hostel building on the Powai campus of the IIT on February 12, however, the boy\u2019s family has alleged foul play and claimed that the deceased faced discrimination at the campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the JNUSU said that they had taken out a candlelight march in solidarity with Solanki\u2019s father, but were allegedly attacked by the BJP-linked ABVP in their bid to \u201conce again to derail the movement against caste discrimination.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Read Also:<\/strong> Fourth time since 2014: Asaduddin Owaisi says stones pelted at Delhi residence<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n The right-wing ABVP has denied the accusations and claimed that the Left-backed JNUSU \u201cinsulted\u201d Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by removing a garland from his portrait and throwing it away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The ABVP said in a statement they had organized a function to mark the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj but soon the Left-leaning students arrived at the scene and removed the garland from the Shivaji\u2019s picture and threw it away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to a report by news agency ANI, Shivaji\u2019s portrait was placed on the walls of the students\u2019 activity centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ABVP JNU secretary Umesh Chandra Ajmera in a statement said that the group had put up the portrait of Shivaji Maharaj on the walls outside the student activity centre to pay tribute to him on his birth anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ajmera claimed that \u201ccommunists\u201d of JNU and from \u201c100 Flowers Group\u201d and the SFI came and vandalised the portrait of Shivaji Maharaj, adding that the vandalizers were \u201cillegal workers\u201d who had \u00a0entered the college premises without permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
