The Supreme Court on Friday refused the immediate listing of the plea seeking to allow female students to wear hijab during exams and said the matter will be listed after Holi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hearing the matter, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said the Top Court will constitute a bench and hear the plea immediately after Holi. The plea deals with Karnataka’s ban on Muslim girl students wearing the hijab at college campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plea was mentioned before a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala, and PS Narasimha and requested the Apex Court to consider listing the case so as to hear on the interim prayer by the students to appear for upcoming exams wearing hijab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In October 2022, a division bench of the Supreme Court delivered a split verdict in the challenge to the government order which allowed the government colleges in Karnataka to ban the wearing of hijab by Muslim girl students at college campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The verdict was announced by a bench comprising Justice Hemant Gupta who upheld the ban while Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia struck it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
